Getting to know Erik

Erik Keith Bettridge was born on September 13, 1994…

Erik was fourteen years old when he had his accident, and was only in eighth grade. Erik’s life had just begun by the time Erik had his first major surgery, his first stroke, and a coma. Erik was like the rest of the boys in his school, had a crush, had hobbies, and dreams. Some of Erik’s dreams consisted of finishing high school, joining the air force like his dad, and eventually finding a woman to take to wife, and having a family of his own. Now Erik’s dreams consist of life’s simple pleasures the rest of us take for granted, like walking, talking, using his hands and legs, and beginning high school.

FUNdraiser!

Please help us out! Many of you know and love Erik. He has made great strides in recovering from the motorcycle accident 3 years ago. He still has more progress to make and the next step involves stem cell therapy (see "Our Cause" on the sidebar). Here's where we need YOU! We are hosting a HUGE Fundraiser and have lots of fun planned for the event. The big day is August 27th from 4:00pm until 8:00pm... or later if the party is just heating up (...and if we're having great success in raising money!!!). Come by for some tasty grub ($10.00 a plate) and an awesome raffle. There will be great music and a chance to show off your stuff with some karaoke! This will all go down at the Cedar City Main Street Park across from Lynn's.

Our Cause

As parents of Erik we feel that with all of this new research, maybe we can grant Erik some of his dreams. With the new Stem Cell Research, and the new advances we feel confident that it can help Erik to accomplish some of Erik’s dreams. We feel that where there is a will there is a way. The Stem Cells will be able to repair the damage that was caused to his brain when he had the strokes, seizers and the coma. All of this together Erik has lost up to 30% use of his brain, when humans only use up to 10% of their brain in the first place, this is a huge number for Erik. We will have to fly out of the country because there is not a place here that does the treatments. One treatment alone will be 30,000 dollar’s, and he will need more than one treatment, and one treatment takes up to one month to complete. However the 30,000 dollars does not include the air fare, a place to sleep, food, or gas expenses to and from the hospital.
We are a family of six and this will be a huge hill to conquer. This is why we have to branch out and ask help from our neighbors, friends, and communities. Without the generous help from others we will not be able to help our son. We hope to earn, and gain enough money to do as much as we can for Erik. We thank you in advance for your time and sympathy, and anything you can do for our son, donations of time, money, merchandise, or prayers; we thank you, all six of us
